Ram Kishan Bhaker is her father and chief engineer in Merchant Navy. Bhaker was a champion in Huyen langlon (a Manipuri martial arts), boxing, tennis, and skating until the age of 14. She won medals at national games in these sports. Her grandfather, ch.Rajkaran Saheb, was a great shooter and Manu was greatly inspired. He served in the Indian military’s Regiment 3 Jat. He witnessed the 1965 Indo-Pak war, 1962 Indo-China War, and 1971 Indo Pakistan war. Manu and his fellow children learned from him the importance of hard work, perseverance and practice. Manu’s rise to international prominence as a shooter was a result of hard work, practice, and perseverance. In her first practice, she used a small range at Universal Public School Goria. She was so absorbed by the game, she practiced for ten hours a day even on holidays. She inspired thousands of girls from her village with her win.
Bhaker qualified for the finals with 388/400 points in the women’s 10m pistol qualifying round at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She won the gold medal in the final round of the women’s 10m air pistol event at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and set a new Commonwealth Games record with 240.9 points.
Manu Bhaker is an Indian olympian who plays airgun shooting. She represented India at the 2018 ISSF World Cup and won two gold medals. She is the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup. She won the gold medal in women’s 10 m air pistol event at 2018 Commonwealth Games just at the age of 16 in her maiden Commonwealth Games appearance.
In May 2019 she qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 10m pistol event via a fourth place finish at the Munich ISSF World Cup. This came days after her pistol jammed in the finals of the 25m pistol event when she was leading, eventually forcing her to forfeit due to her gun not being able to fire.
She scored 593 in the qualifying round of 25m Air pistol events, which is a record for Asian Games 2018. She finished 6th in final, but she did not win a medal. Her compatriot Rahi Sarnabat won the Gold medal in this event.
