Mandy Meyer is one of the most popular and richest Guitarist who was born on August 29, 1960 in Balcarres, Saskatchewan, Canada. Meyer was born in Balcarres (Saskatchewan), Canada, on August 29, 1960. Meyer was the son of a Swiss dairy farmer father and a Canadian mother. He spent his first three year in Canada. His father divorced Meyer’s parents and took him back to Switzerland, where he grew-up in the Kussnacht am Rigi home of his grandparents.
After seven years living in Los Angeles, Meyer was exhausted and decided to return home to Switzerland in mid-1990s. He began writing songs and met people, including his old Krokus bandmate Chris von Rohr who had just signed up to be the producer for Gotthard. Meyer joined the group for the “G Spot Tour”, which was a support tour for the G. album in 1996, after Gotthard covered “Travelin’ Man” by Cobra. For the next eight years, Meyer would remain with the group for their most successful commercial era. He earned numerous gold and platinum awards in Switzerland as well as expanding the fan base internationally. Gotthard would record “Looking At You”, another of Meyer’s Cobra songs, for inclusion on 2002’s One Life One Soul: Best of Ballads.
Meyer is a member of Unisonic, formed in 2009 by Pink Cream 69 members, Dennis Ward and Kosta Zafiriou, and former Helloween vocalist Michael Kiske. In 2011, Kiske’s old Helloween mate, Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray), was added to the line-up. The group has released 2 EP’s and 2 full-length albums so far.
In 2011, Meyer teamed up with German vocalist Hagen Grohe, who had featured on Joe Perry’s 2009 solo album, Have Guitar, Will Travel, under the name Katmandü, with former Krokus drummer Patrick Aeby, bassist François Mohr, and keyboardist Alan Guy rounding out the line-up. On August 4, 2011 they performed at the Rock Oz’Arènes festival in Avenches, Switzerland playing Katmandü material and other songs from the Meyer catalogue previously recorded by Cobra, Van Zant, House of Lords, and Gotthard as well as a cover of Krokus’ “Fire”.
Meyer accepted a call from Asia’s manager Brian Lane. John Kalodner, Geffen Records A&R Man, recommended Meyer to travel to London to audition for the band. They were searching for Steve Howe’s replacement. Meyer was invited to join them and record Asia’s third album Astra in 1985. Despite the success of the single “Go”, the album was not as popular as the previous two. However, MTV’s top-selling single saw it become a hit. The record label pulled the tour due to lack of interest. Asia disbanded in 1986. Meyer moved to Los Angeles, California in 1987. He began to work with Stealin Horses[2], Nelson, John Waite[2] and House of Lords. Meyer also co-wrote the lead-off song, “I Wanna be Loved” from their 1988 debut album. In 1990, he would be a guest guitarist on the band’s second album, Sahara. Meyer formed Katmandu with Dave King (exFastway), as his lead singer. In 1991, the group released a self-titled EP on Epic Records. They did some touring before disbanding due to the rise of grunge rock in the 1990s.

Meyer began playing the marching drums at age 9 and remained a member for seven years of the local marching drummer club. He began studying classical guitar at age 12 and formed Quarry, his first local band performing at local clubs and parties. Meyer, who was the lead singer and guitarist of the Swiss band BM-Smith by 1978, had already released the single “Chaincy Fever” b/w the “Silver City 7″ 7” single. He also made an appearance on Swiss television in 1980 singing the punk-rock-infused “Do You Wanna Dance”, now fronted and performed by Vera Kaa. [1]
Chris von Rohr approached Meyer in 1980 about becoming a founding member and bass player for Krokus after the departure of Tommy Kiefer. The offer was accepted and Meyer toured Europe and the United States the following two years to support Krokus’s Hardware album. Meyer decided to leave the tour and start looking for musicians. He teamed up with Tommy Keiser, a member of Roxane from Lucerne, Switzerland, and Tommy Andris, the vocalist. In 1982, the trio headed for Memphis, Tennessee, where Andris was quickly replaced by Jimi Jamison, a former Target singer. Rounding out the line-up were guitarist/keyboardist Jack Holder (ex-Black Oak Arkansas) and drummer Jeff Klaven. Butch Stone was managing the new band, which also handled Krokus, Black Oak Arkansas, and Target. The group, now called Cobra, became a staple on the Memphis music scene and signed a record deal at Epic Records. In 1983, Cobra released their first and only album, First Strike by Tom Allom. The band was a modest commercial success, but it was plagued with management problems. In 1984, they split up, with some members joining Survivor, Krokus and Meyer’s Asia. Van Zant’s 1985 self-titled album contained a Cobra song called “I’m A Fighter”. It became the theme song of WWF wrestler Paul Orndorff (aka “Mr. Wonderful”.
Meyer decided to leave Gotthard in early 2004 due to disagreements with management and at them same time reaching a point where he felt the need to start something new. After contemplating a solo album, he was back with Krokus in 2005, replacing founding member Fernando von Arb on lead guitar, and played on the band’s 2006 release, Hellraiser. However, Meyer was out of the line-up again when Krokus’ Headhunter era line-up reunited in the spring of 2008.
