Malik Samory Hairston, born February 23, 1987, is an American professional basketball player. He was a shooting guard-small forward with the University of Oregon Ducks. The Phoenix Suns selected him in the 2008 NBA Draft and traded him to San Antonio Spurs. Hairston also played for the San Antonio Spurs and the Austin Toros, which is the Spurs’ D-League affiliate. He was also a player with Montepaschi Siena, Olimpia Milano and Galatasaray in the Turkish League. He was born in Detroit (Michigan).

Hairston signed on July 29, 2010 with Montepaschi Siena, the current Italian league champions. He would be out of action for three weeks following his first appearance for Montepaschi. Although he was limited to 16 games in his first season of Lega Basket serie A, a healthy Hairston would be in good form for Montepaschi just before the EuroLeague playoffs’ Final 16 Round Robin. Montepaschi would play Olympiacos B.C. after finishing second in round 16. In the quarterfinals, it will be a best-of-five series. Montepaschi was beaten in the first game, but would win the second game 82-65. Hairston scored 19 points and grabbed 11 boards to earn him the Sportingbet MVP Award for the game. Montepaschi won game 3. In game 5, Hairston would again lead the charge with 25 points and 7 boards. He would also score 3 assists and steal. Hairston would win the Sportingbet MVP award, becoming the first player in playoff history to win it twice. Montepaschi would win the series and make it to the Final Four, something they hadn’t done in four years. The next match was against Panathinaikos. They would defeat them 77 to 69. They didn’t make it to the finals thanks to Malik Hairston’s 12 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. As consolation, Montepaschi would play in the third-place match against Real Madrid. They won it 82-60. After a successful Euroleague season and a successful first season, Malik Hairston would sign with Olimpia Milano.

In November 2013, Hairston signed with Galatasaray until the end of the season.

Prior to arriving at the University of Oregon, Hairston attended Renaissance High School in Detroit, Michigan playing alongside fellow all-American Joe Crawford, former Fordham point guard Marcus Stout, and stand-out guard Adam Sabree. His former Oregon teammate, Tajuan Porter, also attended Renaissance High School. Hairston led his high school team to a 27–0 record, the Class B state title and a No. 3 national ranking by USA Today. He was a top 10 rated recruit by virtually every publication and played in the 2004 McDonald’s All- America game.

The Phoenix Suns drafted Hairston with the 18th round pick (48th overall) in the 2008 NBA draft. They acquired the pick from Milt Palacio as part of a trade. Following his trade, he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs for Goran Dragic. Hairston was not on the roster at the close of training camp on October 26, 2008. However, he was signed by the Spurs again on December 22. After signing Gary Neal and subsequent log jam at the guard spot, Hairston was let go in the second season of his Spurs career.

On July 25, 2011, Hairston officially signed a contract with Olimpia Milano. After averaging 13.9 points per game in the EuroLeague and 12.7 points in the Serie A in his first season with the team, there were rumors that the Russian team CSKA Moscow was interested in him, but eventually he signed a new two- year contract with Olimpia Milano. In his second season with Olimpia, he averaged 11.4 points per game in the EuroLeague. However, in July 2013, the president of the team confirmed in a press conference that Hairston was free to leave the team.
