Malcolm Bruce Middleton, a Scottish musician who was born 31 December 1973, is now a member of the indie band Arab Strap. Six solo studio albums have been released by Middleton. Middleton, who performed under the pseudonym Human Don’t Be Angrily, released a self-titled album (“Human Don’t Be Angrily”) in 2012.

The next solo album by Middleton, Sleight of Heart, was released in 2008.

Whilst promoting his 2009 solo album Waxing Gibbous, Middleton noted that he would be refraining from performing and recording under his own name in the future, stating “I’m starting to feel like I’ve done as much as I can with this creative voice.”. Since then, however, he has performed occasionally under his own name.

After they briefly reunited for a show at Nice n Sleazy in Glasgow in 2011, Middleton has said that he would be open to another Arab Strap gig at some point, but ruled out another record. The band did indeed reunite for a string of dates in 2016, marking their 20th anniversary.

In 2002, Middleton released 5:14 Fluoxytine seagull Alcohol John Nicotine. He followed this with Into the Woods in 2005. The album A Brighter Beat, which was released after Arab Strap’s split in 2006, was released in 2007. “We’re all going to die” was the first single from the album. It was released on 17 December with odds of 1000-1 against it becoming the Christmas number 1. This is reportedly the highest ever quoted odds. The odds of Middleton becoming Christmas Number One fell to 9-1 after Colin Murray from BBC Radio 1 and social networking sites supported him. He was fourth behind Eva Cassidy, Leona Lewis and Katie Melua ft Eva Cassidy, who were all finalists for the title. Murray supported the song in response to the repeated dominance of manufactured pop acts like The X Factor on Christmas charts. Middleton stated that despite the song’s title being negative, he believes the song sums up Christmas spirit – making the most of what we have. The song reached number 31 on the UK singles charts, courtesy of a cover by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston of When You Believe. It was performed by Leon Jackson. Middleton gained significant mainstream exposure through the publicity surrounding the single.
