Makmot Otto Biography

Makmot Otto is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on August 2, 1978 in Agago, Agago District, Uganda. Otto was born on 2 August 1978 in Agago District of the Acholi sub-region. He was the son of Mzee aldo Davidson Otto Otto and Veronica Adong Otto. He was raised in a Catholic family from Acholi. His childhood education was at Patongo Primary School. He then went to Adilang Primary School, Agago District, and finally joined Bishop Angelo Ngri Primary School, Gulu, Northern Uganda. He was interrupted in his primary education by the Lord’s Resistance Army at the time. He was forced to flee to Kampala to take his primary leave examinations at Bat Valley Primary School.

Otto continued his education at Makerere University (MUK), where he earned a Bachelor in Laws degree. He was the Makerere University Student Government’s cabinet minister responsible for production. In 2001/2002, he also represented Nsibirwa Hall at the Makerere University Student Parliament. Otto was Nsibrwa Hall’s deputy speaker in 2000/2001. Makmot was also a student at University of Toronto, where he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2008. He was also an associate editor of Journal of International Law and International Relations, and played soccer for University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law soccer club.

He was duly sworn and enrolled as a solicitor for the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and duly called to the degree of Barrister-at- Law and was admitted to the practice at the Bar of Her Majesty Courts in Ontario, Canada by the benchers of The Law Society of Upper Canada on June 15, 2010. Otto articled with HOUSEN, Barrister, Solicitor and Notary then worked as a client service representative for Legal Aid Ontario in 2010 before founding Otto, Barrister, Solicitor and Notary where he worked as a barrister and solicitor until 2015. He is also a partner and co-founder of Otto & Sherman Professional Corporation where he still serves to date.

In 2015, Otto joined elective politics and went on to win the parliamentary seat for Agago County as an independent or non partisan member of parliament in the 2016 general elections that ushered in the 10th Parliament for the Pearl of Africa.

Otto received his bachelor’s degree from Makerere University in 2002. He was then employed at Downtown Legal Services as a case worker. This clinic is a community legal clinic that also offers clinical education programs. He continued his studies at the Canadian university until 2005. After completing a JD at the University of Toronto, Otto was accepted into the Bar Program in Ontario, Canada.

Makmot Edward Otto, a Ugandan-Canadian lawyer, solicitor, notary public and lawyer, was born 2 August 1978. He is the Agago County’s elected Member of Parliament and is not affiliated with any political party in Uganda. John Okot Amos was succeeded by him. Otto obtained his O-Level academic qualifications at St. Henry’s College Kitovu. He was both a junior debate club chairperson and a senior head-boy, and also served as a child delegate representing Masaka District at National Conference Center during the creation of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda. Otto attended St. Mary’s College Kisubi to study A-Level. He also served as editor current affairs at the college’s flagship publication the Eagle Magazine.

In the 10th Parliament, Otto serves on the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline and the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee. He is the general secretary of independents or non partisan members of parliament, a member of: the Forum for Quality Health; the Legal and Leadership Forum; the Forum for Environment; the Acholi Parliamentary Group and; the Uganda Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast Fellowship.
