Makis Voridis is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on August 23, 1964 in Athens, Attica, Greece. Mavroudis Voridis (Greek Mauroudes (Makes) Khrestou Borides) was born 23 August 1964. He is a Greek politician and lawyer. He is a member of the Hellenic Parliament of New Democracy and currently serves as Minister for Agricultural Development and Food in Cabinet of Kyriakos Mitchells. He was previously Minister for Infrastructure and Transport in the Cabinet Lucas Papademos and Minister of Health in the Cabinet Antonis Samaras.

Voridis owns a law firm in Athens. He also ran for a seat on the East Attica LAOS ticket in 2006. He was eventually elected prefectural councillor after securing 5% of the vote.

In November 2011, Voridis was appointed Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Networks in the coalition government headed by Lucas Papademos. In February 2012, he was expelled from LAOS for supporting the second bailout package but retained his portfolio after consultations with the prime minister. A few days later, he joined New Democracy and surrendered his parliamentary seat to LAOS. As Minister, Voridis was supposed to open up professions like taxi drivers, a measure he has previously opposed on multiple occasions.

On 10 June 2014, Voridis was appointed Minister for Health, despite significant concern from Jewish and other groups.

He founded the extreme-right Hellenic Front party in 1994 and was its first president. In 1998 and 2002, he unsuccessfully ran for Athens mayor. He ran in 2000’s national elections with Konstantinos Pelevris. The Front’s slogan was “Red Card for the Illegal Immigrants”. Under Voridis’ leadership, the Hellenic Front performed poorly in 2004 and received only 7000 votes (0.1%). The Hellenic Front, under the leadership of Voridis, ceased political activity in

2005. It was then merged with the more popular Popular Orthodox Rally party (LAOS). Voridis was elected to the LAOS political council.

Athens College graduate Voridis was named secretary general of EPEN’s young wing. This far-right political party was founded by Georgios Papadopoulos, the former leader of the 1967 military coup. Voridis was the youth leader of EPEN, replacing Nikolaos Michaloliakos, who went on to lead Golden Dawn. He remained in that position until 1990.

Voridis, who served his military service in 1992-1993, graduated as a class leader (92A’ ESSO) at Armour School. He also served as an Armour Cadet Reserve officer, earning the rank of second lieutenant.
