Wahabi was born in Beit Jann, a Druze village on 12 February 1954. He received a B.A. He earned a B.A. in History of Islam at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and an M.A. The University of Haifa offers the History of the New Middle East.
On the Likud list, he was elected to 16th Knesset in March 2005. He was elected Deputy Minister in 2005 to the Ministry in Prime Minister’s Office. In June 2006, he became Deputy Minister for Education, Culture, and Sport.
On February 27, 2007, while then president Moshe Katzav was on leave of absence due to an indictment for rape charges, and interim president Dalia Itzik was on a trip abroad, Wahabi, who had previously served as interim speaker of the Knesset, was named acting president of Israel for two weeks, becoming the first non-Jew and Druze to be Israel’s head of state.
Shortly before the 2013 elections Wahabi joined the new Hatnuah party, and was placed twelfth on its list. He lost his seat as the party won only six seats.
He was a member of the Israel Defense Forces. He was initially assigned to the intelligence school as an instructor. Later, he joined an infantry battalion of Druze and became an officer. He was a soldier in the 1982 Lebanon War and later served as a deputy commander in the Golan Heights Division as well as a senior Northern Command officer. He was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel.

Majalli wahabi (Arabic mjly whby ; Hebrew mgly vhbh ) is an Israeli Druze politician. He was a member the Knesset for Likud and Kadima, as well as a Hatnuah and Hatnuah members between 2003 and 2013. Due to President Moshe Katzav’s absence and Interim President Dalia Itzik’s February 2007 trip abroad, Majalli Wahabi briefly assumed the role of Acting President. This made him the first non-Jewish and first Druze to serve as Israel’s head of state.
Wahabi was introduced to Sharon by the then-Defense Minister Ariel Sharon, in 1981. He was Sharon’s personal diplomat to Israel’s Arab neighbours, Egypt, and Jordan, starting in 1996.
When Sharon left Likud to found Kadima, Wahabi followed, and was elected to the 17th Knesset in 2006 on the Kadima list. He assumed the position of Deputy Speaker of the Knesset. In October 2007 he was added to Ehud Olmert’s cabinet as Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister. He retained his seat in the 2009 elections after being placed 21st on the Kadima list.
