Uotila was conceived in Espoo, Finland on 25 February 1977. Uotila graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in New York with a Bachelor’s degree in dance. She settled in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 2004. On June 19, 2004, she married Victor Kraatz. They had two sons, Oliver (born September 14, 2006), and Henry (born July 10, 2010.

In the 1997-1998 season, Uotila fought Michel Bigras.

Uotila/Mattila was awarded two silver medals and won the Finnish national title for the 1996-1997 season. They finished 26th at 1997 European Championships, Paris, France. Martin Skotnicky and Arja Wuorivirta coached them. After three seasons of being together, they ended their partnership in 1997.
