Maho Hanaoka is one of the most popular and richest Athletics Competitor who was born on August 3, 1976 in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Maho Hanaoka, Japanese: Hua Gang Ma fan; born 3 Aug 1976 in Japan) is an ex-track and field athlete from Japan. She competed mainly at the triple jump and long jump. She is one the most successful female Japanese athletes in horizontal jumps. She holds the Japanese record for triple jump outdoors at 14.04m (46 feet /4in) and also holds the indoor record in long jump and triple jump indoors. Her longest jump record of 6.82m (22 feet 4 /2 inches) is an old Japanese record.

She set a national indoor record for long jump at 6.57m (21 feet 6 /2 inches) and a personal best of 22.91 seconds in 200 metres. She was awarded the triple jump title for the third consecutive National Games. At the National Championships she came away without any titles, and was second to Ikeda for the long jump. She opened her 2004 season with a 100m best time of 11.72 seconds. She also ranked first in both the long and high jumps at the national championships. Hanaoka’s debut performance at the 2004 Athens Olympics was a result of this. She placed 33rd on the qualifying stage. After sustaining a knee injury, she had to focus on the long jump instead. Her body was not able to handle the higher impact of triple jumping.

At the 2005 Japanese Championships she had the second best long jump performance of her career with a clearance of 6.69 m (21 ft 11 ⁄4 in). Her rival Kumiko Ikeda matched this, however, and Hanaoka was runner-up by merit of a lesser second jump. Both represented Japan at the 2005 Asian Athletics Championships, but while Ikeda reached the podium Hanaoka managed only eighth place. She did win the National Games title that year.

The first international gold medal of her career came at the 2006 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships as she beat India’s Bobby George in the long jump with a championship record of 6.40 m (20 ft 11 ⁄4 in). This led to her selection for the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships, where she competed in the qualifying round only. She was again bested at the national championships by Ikeda (who broke Hanaoka’s long jump national record that season), but won at the National Games. Her third international outing of the year was the 2006 Asian Games and she came seventh, while Ikeda won the gold medal.

Hanaoka broke the national record in the long jump at 2000 Asian Athletics Championships. She cleared 6.61m (21ft 8in) and was also the bronze medallist for the horizontal jumps. She won the national double at the Japanese Championships as well as the long jump at Japan National Games. At the 2001 East Asian Games, she won the bronze medal in long jump and silver in triple jump. She broke the national record for the second time in her professional career to win the Japanese Championships in the long jump, with a mark 6.82m (22 ft 4 2 in). While she defended her national title in long jump, she finished second to Kumiko Iteda at the National Games. She did not make it to the finals of the long jump heats at 2001 World Championships in Athletics. At the 2002 Japanese Championships, she took her third consecutive jumps double and also won the National Games triple-jump title. She won the 2002 Asian Games triple jump title and the silver medal in long jump (behind Anju Bobby George from India).
