Maharram Gasimli, Azerbaijani: M@h@r@m Qasimli, is a Doctor in Sciences in Philology, Professor, Vice Director at Azerbaijan National Acad Sciences’ Literature Institute and chairman of Azerbaijan AShugs’ Union (03.03.2016 to date), literature scholar, folklore expert, Meritorious Scientist and poet.
He compiled the Novruz encyclopedia in 2008 and was its chief scientific editor. He published his book “Ozan-aşık sanatı” in Turkey in 2010.
He is currently working on the “Ozan-Aşıq” encyclopedia. He is the principal secretary of Azerbaijan Ashugs’ Union. He was appointed as chairman of the union in 2016.
He was part of the group that prepared the ten-volume History of Azerbaijani Literature. He is editor-in-chief for the Folklore and Ethnography Journal, which has been published every year since 2003.
