Magnet’s second album, On Your Side, was released on Ultimate Dilemma in June 2003 to great critical acclaim. The album features Magnet performing a duet with Gemma Hayes, an Irish singer-songwriter. It is a cover version of Bob Dylan’s “Lay Lady Lay”. This song was later used in the 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Magnet signed to Atlantic Records in May 2005 for his third album, The Tourniquet. This was after a series of North American and European tour dates. He contributed many songs to the soundtrack to Dreamfall: The Longest Journey in 2006. His fourth studio album, The Simple Life was released on March 7, 2007 by the Hermetix Recordings label. This imprint is part of Sony BMG.

Even Johansen was raised in Norway and now resides in Bergen. He also used to live outside Lockerbie, a southern Scottish town where he recorded On Your Side. Even was the founder of Libido and Chocolate Overdose, two Norwegian rock bands. Even wrote a number of songs during his time with Libido. In 2000, his first solo album, Quiet & Yet, was released under the alias Magnet. The album was not released under his real name in the United States. Even, a child with anemia, was given the name Magnet. He was also given a magnetic tattoo that could attract iron.
Even has toured over the years with Phoenix, Engineers and Zero 7, Gemma Hayes (Ed Harcourt), Stars and Doves. Even provided a remix to Doves’ “The Last Broadcast” song, which was included on their bonus disc of the 2003 B-sides & rarities compilation Lost Sides.
