Her paternal grandfather, Arturo Matte Larrain was a lawyer, congressman, Minister to the State, presidential candidate (1952), as well as a founder of CMPC, a forestal and paper company.
Chile’s former President Sebastian Pinera appointed Magdalena Matte to his Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on February 9, 2010. Magdalena was forced to resign as minister in April 2011 due to the suspicious millionaire compensation paid to Kodama, a construction company.
