He won the bronze medal in the 60m at the Dutch Indoor Championships, Ghent 2006, but other than that, he did not achieve any notable results. He also did not perform at his peak in 2007, although he managed to beat his personal record at 100m to 10.49. His 2008 start was unexpectedly successful due to his performances in the previous two years. Heisen qualified for the World Indoor Championships Valencia with a 6.66 at 60m indoors during an international race in Luxembourg. Heisen was able to achieve 6.77 in Valencia to reach the semi- final, but his 6.71 wasn’t enough to make it to the final. He ended up 16th overall.

Heisen continued to compete at the senior level in his second year, but struggled to adjust to the higher levels. Heisen reached the finals of the national championships but was not able to make it to the podium. He was selected for the Dutch Olympic Team and gained valuable experience from more experienced athletes, especially those who qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics. He suffered an injury at the beginning of 2005, but was able to win his first senior medals. He won a silver medal at 60m indoor, and a bronze at 100m outdoors. He was unable to qualify for the under-23 European Championships so he decided to race in international races in Helsinki, Stockholm and other cities. At the end of 2005, his personal best time over 100m was 10.52.

He began to take more responsibility for his career at sixteen and started to train more often. In 2001, he was a second-year B-junior and won his first medals at national championships. He won silver at the 60m indoor race and bronze at 100m outdoors. His next goal was to run under 11 seconds over 100 meters. He ran 10.99 seconds, and he was able to run 10.82 seconds in his second attempt. He was still unable to reach the 10.74 second limit for the World Junior Championships Jamaica. He improved his personal record to 10.70 days after the deadline, but it was too late for him to begin in Jamaica.

Heisen made his way into the Dutch 4 x 100 metres relay team together with team mates Caimin Douglas, Patrick van Luijk, Guus Hoogmoed, Gregory Sedoc and Virgil Spier. Their aim was to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics and initially they finished in 17th position during the qualification process while only the first 16 teams would qualify. Due to the cancellation of the Australian team they were allowed to start in Beijing. In their qualification heat Heisen, Hoogmoed, Van Luijk and Douglas placed third in behind Trinidad and Tobago and Japan, but in front of Brazil. Their time of 38.87 was the fifth fastest out of all sixteen participating nations in the first round and they qualified for the final. In the final, the second baton change between Hoogmoed and Van Luijk failed, resulting in a slow time. They still finished the race to place seventh, before the disqualified Chinese team.
