Susan Savage, a Democratic American politician from Oklahoma, was born March 30, 1952. From 1992 to 2002 she was Tulsa’s 36th Mayor, becoming the first woman to hold this office. She was the 29th Secretary for State of Oklahoma from 2003 to 2011.
Savage was appointed Secretary of State by Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry and served as Secretary from 2003 to 2011.
The Reason Public Policy Institute of Los Angeles placed Tulsa third among 44 U.S. municipalities for its ability to deliver government services during Savage’s administration. Newsweek magazine named Savage one of the 25 “mayors- to-watch” in 1996.

Savage graduated from Edison High School, Tulsa, and earned a B.A. in 1974. She earned a degree from Beaver College, now Arcadia University in Pennsylvania. In 1977, she returned to Tulsa and was appointed executive director of the Metropolitan Tulsa Citizens Crime Commission. Savage was appointed chief of staff to Rodger Randle, the then-Tulsa mayor. She won the seat in 1992’s special election to replace Randle.
From 1992 to 2002 Savage was mayor of Tulsa and was the first woman to hold this office.
In July 2013 Savage became a consultant and senior director of philanthropic development for Morton Comprehensive Health Services, a nonprofit health services provider in northeastern Oklahoma. In 2016, Savage became CEO of Morton.
