Baker was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals 76th in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft. He signed for $800,000. After making his professional debut with the Gulf Coast League Cardinals and batting.500 in eight matches, Baker was promoted to Peoria Chiefs. He hit.288 in 37 games with the Chiefs, including three home runs and fifteen RBIs.
Baker, a freshman at TCU in 2016, was named Big 12 Freshman Of The Year. Baker started all 67 games at TCU, batting.379 and scoring 11 home runs. He also had 62 RBIs. Baker was a sophomore in 2017. He played 47 games before sustaining a left-arm injury in a collision at first base. This ended Baker’s season. He batted.317 in those 47 games with eight home runs, 41 RBIs and earned a spot on All-Big 12’s Second Team. Baker was back in good health for Baker’s junior season. However, his season was cut short after 31 games when he broke his left fibula during a slide and tore ligaments. This required him to have season-ending surgery.
