Luke Losey is one of the most popular and richest Film Director who was born on January 9, 1968 in England, United Kingdom. Luke Losey, a film director and lighting designer, was born 9 January 1968. His work can be seen in mainstream and avant-garde media.
He met Orbital in the early 1990s. He created Orbital’s visual elements live with Giles Thacker, a video artist. It was a combination of meticulously prepared visuals, lighting, and observations about everyday life that floated in the face the staid fractal imagery of the time.
His most recent commercial work has included a number of internet viral campaigns, a return to photography and advertising work and several short films, most notably i in 2010, a two-minute short of an eyeball featuring industrial sounds, which won the Best Sound Design award at the Hamburg Film Festival and was shown at the Rushes Short Film Festival and the Ann Arbor Film Festival, and The Promise in 2011, also shown at the Ann Arbor Film festival. The Promise garnered critical acclaim but its dark subject matter – a slow-motion depiction of a woman being executed – limited its distribution. Losey, who is now UK based, exhibited work at the Latitude Contemporary Art Exhibition in 2010.
In late 2013 he directed a short teaser film of Jessica Albarn’s fairy tale book The Boy in the Oak. The film was narrated by Jude Law with music by Damon Albarn.
In the 1990s and 2000s Luke directed many music videos, including work for William Orbit (directing his 1999 version Adagio for Strings), and Mercury Rev. Losey, along with his family, moved to Australia to continue to pursue photography and to direct TV ads. He returned to the UK several times to design live shows for bands such as The Libertines and Turin Brakes. He shot the video of Gang of Four’s Damaged Goods’ cover by Gaz Coombes, Danny Goffey and his side project The Hotrats in 2009. Luke joined Bare Films in May 2013.

From Losey’s idea of the “Boy who loved dinosaurs” script, Klaus Fried is currently developing a script. This is a story that’s both a ghost story and a road movie about a tragic but miraculous metaphysical connection between two people from different continents. Losey is currently working with Coral Bark Productions and producer Liam Garvo on a drama called Subject 8. It was written by Justin Villiers. This short film, which will be shot in 1975, explores the rise of the Institute for Neurological Research (Leningrad). The institute was the most important research facility in the world for parapsychology and ESP in the 1950s. However, it was discredited in the 1970s after years of unsupportable claims. The project is still in its early stages of production.
He was obsessed with science fiction as a child. After a chance encounter with Kubrick’s 2001, and the gift of a Brownie camera, he became obsessed with taking pictures. He left school in 1984 to work as a runner for film sets and production companies. As a floor runner, he worked in Derek Jarman’s film Caravaggio. He worked as an assistant in the art department on music videos, films and ads for much of the 1980s. He was involved in the early rave scene and squatting scene in North London, which led him to become interested in film projection and lighting.
In 1998, Losey co-directed a music video for Orbital’s single The Box, which starred Tilda Swinton and was inspired by time-lapse animation. The promo won a silver spire for the Best Short Film at the San Francisco film festival, and was nominated for the best video award at the 1998 MTV awards. It also closed the Edinburgh film festival, opened the London film festival, screened at Sundance and was seen at almost every festival that year. In 1999 Losey created a second music video for Orbital called Style, with Jonathan Charles as director of animation. Style also uses stop motion animation throughout and is a surreal take on Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, influenced by the work of Jan Švankmajer. Both The Box and Style continue to be widely shown.
