Stan Ternent brought him to Burnley as one of three Greeks who signed for the Clarets, along with goalkeeper Nikolaos Mikhopoulos (centre-forward Dimitrios Papadopoulos). Cennamo is half Greek/half Italian. To confuse things further, he was born in Munich, South Germany in 1980. Cennamo signed with Olympiakos on a six-month contract. The 21-year old would be an understudy for Nikolaos Michopoulos, but was expected to compete for the first team position. He was the substitute goalkeeper on first team days and was often called upon at Preston in December when Michopoulos was about to be dismissed. Luigi saw some major changes at the start of 2001. First, the club announced that they had signed Luigi from Olympiakos.
He was the first player to be assigned to the APEP Pitsilia Cypriot club in the 2009/10 season. After spending a year in Cyprus, he moved to Greece and joined Panetolikos Football League. He helped the club win the Championship. Luigi Cennamo was transferred from Panetolikos to Maccabi Netanya in a free transfer. He played 38 games in all competitions that year.

After playing for many clubs, he returned to Greece. He was able to play for the top division club Egaleo almost five years. He was part of their team against Middlesbrough during the 2004/05 season.
