The Los Angeles Dodgers purchased May’s contract, which protected him from the Rule 5 Draft. For the 2008 season, May was assigned by the Dodgers to the Double-A Jacksonville Suns. He hit.230 with 13 homers in 392 at bats.

In 2005, he was promoted to Single A and began playing for the Columbus Catfish. He was a shortstop and also began to play in the outfield. The organization made the decision to switch him because he had committed 18 errors in 46 games, 18 in 34 games and 26 in 46 games. May was back with the Catfish in 2006. This time, he saw all of his action in the outfield. He had a.273 average in batting and hit 18 home runs.

After signing with the Dodgers, May started his professional career. In 2003, he was a rookie for the Gulf Coast Dodgers. In 48 games, he played shortstop and batting.252 with no runs.
