Lu Li, a coach in California, moved to California in 2000. Kim David Gussenhoven was her husband and they have a son, J. In 2007, she moved to North Carolina as a coach. Lu Li, a coach at Champion Gymnastics Academy, moved to Stockton in California in 2009. J, Li, and Kim moved to Washington on September 1, 2009. She was then hired as a coach at Emerald City Gymnastics, Redmond. She has recently started to coach gymnasts in Gig Harbor. Li is now a coach at Tech Gymnastics, formerly Eastside Gymnastics Academy in Woodinville.

Lu participated in the 1993 Chinese National Games, winning the uneven bars title (tied to Luo Li who would go on the win the 1994 World Championships at Brisbane). Soon after, she retired.
