Loukas Mavrokefalidis is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Player who was born on July 25, 1984 in Jeseník, Czech Republic. Loukas Mavrokefalidis, alternative spelling: Mavrokefalides (Greek pronunciation: Loukas Mauokephalides; July 25, 1984), is a professional Greek basketball player who plays for Promitheas Ptras in the Greek Basket League. He also plays for the EuroCup. He also played for the senior Greek national basketball team. The Minnesota Timberwolves selected him in the second round (57th overall), of the 2006 NBA Draft.
Virtus Roma, the Italian League and EuroLeague signed Mavrokefalidis in the summer 2006. However, he did not establish himself as a core member of the team and averaged just 2 points per game. He was traded for Roberto Chiacig (Spanish ACB League) and Jon Stefansson in February 2007. Mavrokefalidis was a member of Olympiacos on July 12, 2007. Mavrokefalidis made the move to Maroussi in 2008. He signed a new contract with Olympiacos in 2009 for the 2010-11 season.
In 2011, Mavrokefalidis was signed by the Russian League club Spartak Saint Petersburg to a 2-year contract worth €2.4 million euros net income. He was named to the All-EuroCup Second Team in 2013. He signed with the Spanish League club FC Barcelona in May 2013.
On 10 July 2013, even though the Greek media were saying that Mavrokefalidis was very close to signing with Olympiacos, he was instead announced as a signing of Panathinaikos. In the 2015 Greek Basket League playoffs, he was the best player for Panathinaikos, averaging 18.4 points, 8.1 rebounds (5.8 offensive rebounds), and 2.2 assists per game.
Panagiotis Giannakis, senior men’s Greek basketball team coach, was impressed with Mavrokefalidis’ abilities in 2006 and invited him to the Greek basketball senior men’s training camp. This took place one month before the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan. Mavrokefalidis was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2006 NBA Draft. He informed Panagiotis Giannakis shortly before the start of the World Championship that Mavrokefalidis had decided to return to Minnesota to participate in performance improvement camps. Thus, he lost Sofoklis Shortsanitis’ 12th spot on the team’s roster.

Mavrokefalidis was instrumental in helping Greece win the bronze medal at 2003 FIBA Under-19 World Cup. He was also a participant in the 2004 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. In 2011, Mavrokefalidis was given a 2-month suspension from all competitions by the Hellenic Basketball Federation, for refusing to play for Greece’s national team for the second consecutive summer. However, two years later, he played with the Greek senior men’s national team at the EuroBasket 2013.
