Francisco Luis “Louie”, a Filipino basketball coach, was born October 10, 1963. He was the former Letran Knights head coach in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and will soon be the coach for the Philippine Patriots of the ASEAN Basketball League. He was also the former coach of Mobiline in the Philippine Basketball Association from 2000 to 2001. Now he is the assistant coach for the Alaska Aces.
As an assistant coach, he worked in many teams such as the Alaska Milkmen and Sta. Lucia Realtors, and then with the Purefoods Carne Norte Beefies from 1996 to 1998. In 1998, Alas barged into NCAA territory with Letran. He immediately captured that year’s championship trophy by sweeping the San Sebastian Stags in a best- of-three series.
After his stint with the youth, he was tasked to coach the Philippines in the 1999 Southeast Asian Games in Brunei. Majority of his players were from his MBA team, the Manila Metrostars because prior to the competition, the Metrostars were the top-seeded team in that season. He led the Philippines to a gold medal by sweeping the whole tournament and beating Thailand in the Gold Medal Match.
In 1996, he was a San Beda College High school coach and made his national coaching debut. Ren-Ren Ritualo was the team’s coach and Aries Dimaunahan was its manager. He was appointed coach of the youth team a year later and assembled a formidable roster that included future stars such as Kerby Raymundo (Enrico Villanueva), Cyrus Baguio (Yancy de Ocampo), and Cyrus Baguio (Yancy de Ocampo). The team won the SEABA Championship, and was third in the ABC Juniors Championship.
