Lorena Sofia Gonzalez Fletcher (born September 16, 1971, dated (1971-09-16)) is an American politician currently serving the California State Assembly. She is a Democrat and represents the 80th District of the Assembly, which includes southern San Diego. In 2013, she was the first to be elected to the Assembly to succeed Ben Hueso who was elected in a special election.

Gonzalez introduced AB1522 in January 2014. This law requires employers to grant sick days for part-time employees. In September 2014, Governor Jerry Brown signed the legislation. It granted paid sick leave to approximately 6.5 million Californians. Gonzalez introduced a 2015 measure that would have doubled the pay of workers who work on Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays. Gonzalez passed a bill in 2016 to protect janitorial workers against sexual harassment. A variety of bills were also signed by Governor Gonzalez. Jerry Brown. These bills were designed to ensure that everyone who is injured in California receives fair, just and civil compensation regardless their immigration status. Her legislation also helped to ensure that nail salon owners and their employees were better informed about worker’s rights.

Gonzalez also serves on the Assembly Committee on Education, the Assembly Committee on Health, the Assembly Committee on Insurance, the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife; and the Assembly Committee on Rules. She is also the first Chair of the Select Committee on Women in the Workplace.

Gonzalez was elected to the 80th State Assembly District of California in a special election that took place May 21 2013. With 70.75% of votes, she defeated Steve Castaneda, a former Chula Vista Councilmember.

Other bills introduced by Gonzalez and signed into law in 2014 include AB 1873, which allows San Diego County to fill special election vacancies for Congress and the state Legislature by mail ballot until 2020.
