The Denver Nuggets signed Meyer as a free agent on January 23, 1999. Meyer was 26 years old and should have been entering the peak of his career. However, Meyer’s game had declined when he returned to the NBA. He hadn’t been in a NBA game since May 3, 1997, after sustaining an injury that kept him out of the 1997-1998 season. This was a huge setback for his career as he never statistically recovered after his absence from the league. His overall score, efficiency, and play all dropped. On a 20% 3pt% basis and 25% FG%, he averaged 1.1 point. He was not able to play in the final 14 games of the 1998-1999 season for the Nuggets, who did not make it to the playoffs. Meyer was released on August 6, 1999 by the Nuggets after the 1998-1999 season.

Meyer was the 24th overall selection in the 1st Round of the 1995 NBA Draft. The Dallas Mavericks drafted him. They traded Rolando Blackman for Meyer in the 1992 offseason. Meyer was forced to fight for minutes because the Mavericks were a rebuilding squad at the time. They had four Centers throughout the 1995-1996 season. He played 17.6 minutes per match in his rookie season, which was a good performance. In his rookie season, he averaged 5.0 points and 4.4 rebounds. Although he was considered inefficient and small for his position, he was an athletic defender and hustler. He also had the intangibles that were not visible in the box score, but which made him valuable in the game. Meyer scored a record 13 rebounds in a 103 to 101 win over the Vancouver Grizzlies on December 28, 1995. Meyer scored 14 points in a loss to the Portland Trailblazers by 115 to 100 on March 31, 1996.
Meyer was part of a huge trade that included Jason Kidd and Tony Dumas to Phoenix Suns. The deal involved Sam Cassell and Michael Finley, A.C. Green and a 1998 draft pick (Greg Buckner). Meyer averaged 4.9 point per game for the entire season, but he averaged 5.4 points per match for the Suns. He improved his scoring and shot higher percentages from the floor. His career average was 44% FG%, and a staggering 60% 3pt% with the Suns. Meyer scored a record 18 point in a win against the Denver Nuggets on January 14, 1997. Meyer was instrumental in the Suns’ 1997 run to the playoffs. They finished 40-42, and despite a losing season, they placed 7th within the Western Conference. This qualified them for the post-season. Meyer’s first playoff appearance was made by the Suns against the Seattle SuperSonics. Surprisingly, the Suns performed well and led the SuperSonics up to five games before eventually losing the series 2-3.
Meyer was inducted into the Iowa High School Basketball Hall of Fame in March 2009.
