Ludovicus Jacobus Maria “Loek” van Mil ([luk van mIl]; 15 September 1984 – 28 July 2019 was a Dutch professional pitcher of baseball). He was 7’1″ (2.16m) tall and one of the most prominent players in professional baseball history. He was a member of Curacao Neptunus, the Honkbal Hoofdklasse, and the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles (NPB) of Nippon Professional Baseball. He was the closer for the Dutch national baseball team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, the 2015 Premier 12, and also appeared in the 2007 Baseball World Cup. Due to injury, he missed the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Van Mil pitched during the 2008 season for the Beloit Snappers, Class A Midwest League. His first 44 /3 innings were a 2-2 record. He had 3 saves, a 3.22 ERA, and 42 strikeouts. This earned him a spot in the Midwest League All- Star Game. Van Mil sustained a partially torn ligament in his right ulnar collateral ligament while preparing for the 2008 Summer Olympics. He missed seven weeks of the 2009 season as he was undergoing rehabilitation.
Mil was announced as the player to be named later going to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the trade for Fuentes on 1 September 2010.
Van Mil began the 2010 season with Fort Myers. He was designated for assignment to make room on the roster for Brian Fuentes on 27 August 2010.
Van Mil was selected by Robert Eenhoorn (coach for the Dutch team), to represent the Netherlands at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He was injured in the ulnar collateral ligament and had to return home prior to the games. Van Mil was replaced in the lineup by Dave Draijer, a veteran baseball player. He was part of the KNB team at the 2017 World Baseball Classic. According to NBC, it was the tallest batter-pitcher matchup ever recorded in baseball history. Van Mil, who stands 7 feet-1 inch (2.16 m), walked Nate Freiman (2.03 m), of Team Israel in a round-one game at 2017 World Baseball Classic.

Van Mil signed a seven year contract as a non-drafted, free agent with the Minnesota Twins on July 7, 2005. Van Mil threw one third of scoreless innings for HCAW 2006, and spent most of the year with Gulf Coast League Twins (Rookie-level Gulf Coast League).

Van Mil began his 2009 season in late May with the Fort Myers Miracle, playing in the Class A-Advanced Florida State League. Later that year, he was promoted to the New Britain Rock Cats in the Class AA Eastern League. He finished the season with a 1–1 record and a 2.79 ERA in 42 games between the two clubs, 25 games out of the bullpen with Fort Myers with a 2.86 ERA and another 8 games with New Britain for a 2.45 ERA. On 20 November 2009, he was added to the Twins’ 40 man roster.
