He reigned as the undisputed welterweight champion from 1986 to 1987; and held the WBC, Ring magazine and lineal welterweight titles twice between 1986 and 1989. At regional level he held the British, European, and Commonwealth welterweight titles between 1983 and 1985, as well as the Commonwealth super-welterweight title from 1993 to 1994.
