Liza Umarova is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on March 12, 1965 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Liza spent her childhood years in Almaty (Kazakhstan). Due to the forced deportations of many Chechens to Central Asia, her parents were removed from Katyr-Yurt in Chechnya. Her father decided in 1982 to relocate the family to Chechnya and they settled down in Grozny.
Four drunken men aged between 25- 30 beat Liza and Murad, her 15-year-old son, in Moscow on September 6, 2005. They were on their way to the metro. Umarova and her son suffered numerous injuries in the attack, but they initially decided not to report it to the police.
Nevertheless, Liza says she sings because, “Music has always affected me emotionally, has always calmed me and has given me hope. People came up to me after a concert, when I performed in Chechnya, in Grozny, and said that these songs heal. Although they are tragic, in the end there is always something positive – hope for a good life.”
Liza recorded her first song, “Motherland” in 1998. It was a song about Chechnya set to the music of “Liberta”, an 1980s hit by Romina Power and Al Bano. She said that the recording cost her $50. “I was sewing at the time, making money to feed my children. I made linen swaddles for newborn babies. I also had lots of cotton, rolls of it. I made $50 by selling all the rolls on the market.

Liza Sulimovna Umarova (Chechen Iumariin IoI Liza) was born March 12, 1965 in Almaty (Kazakhstan) and is a Chechen singer/actress.
After graduating from Yaroslavl Drama Institute with a strong reputation for emotive singing, Liza became a mother shortly after. After their home was bombed in the First Chechen War, the family moved to Moscow in 1994. She opened a small business in Moscow called “Vaynaham”, which sold Ingush and Chechen literature, and audio recordings. Liza divorced her husband during this time and tried to raise their children alone.
In an article published on April 4, 2006, The Moscow News reported that three of the attackers had been given guilty verdicts by a Moscow court. The sentences ranged from a one-year suspended sentence to three years at a prison settlement. After the defendants contested the decision, the case was sent for retrial, but the Moscow City Court upheld the previous verdict.
