Liu Wencheng (Chinese Liu Wen Zheng / pinyin Liu Wenzheng – born 12 November 1952) was a Taiwanese actor and singer. He is the nephew and American diplomat Burton Levin who served as Ambassador to Burma during the late 1980s, early 1990s.
He agreed to a rare telephone interview in 1991 with a Singapore radio station, during which the normally private Liu spoke briefly about his personal life. He described his childhood happiness and described himself as an optimistic, easy-going child. However, he didn’t know much about his future career as singer until he was in college. Liu said that he was unmarried because of his independence and unwillingness to settle down. Liu felt that long-term relationships required a level commitment and responsibility that was difficult to maintain in the entertainment business. He felt that despite his 30+ years of age, he had not yet reached the maturity required to be a father and husband. He laughed when asked if it was because he loved himself so much that he didn’t need love from anyone else.
Liu, then aged 30, announced that he would quit the spotlight and concentrate on his backstage career. Liu stated in numerous interviews that he couldn’t see any more breakthroughs and wanted to retire at the height of his career. He wanted to broaden his horizons, not be restricted to the entertainment industry for the rest of his life.

Liu’s 1975 debut album Nuoyan (The Promise) was a huge success and launched his singing career. Because of his unique vocal style and great looks, Liu was able to climb to the top. He began to wear a white scarf while performing early in his career. This became his signature look.

He subsequently set up a production company “Fei Ying” to groom young talents but the company was wound up in 1991 when he immigrated to the United States.
