Liu Weiping Biography

Liu Weiping is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on May 1, 1953 in Fujian, China. Liu Weiping hails from Fujin, Heilongjiang. In 1968, he was a sent-down youth from Nanchang County in Jiangxi. He then entered the workforce in 1970 and began working at the Hongdu Machinery Building Factory (now Hongdu Aviation Industry Group) of the Ministry of Aerospace Industry.

Liu was promoted to vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in April 2016. Such a transfer was considered unusual as Liu had not yet reached the mandated retirement age for active provincial-ministerial officials at 65; moreover, Liu was moved from a position of power in government to a deputy academic position, the only such case since the 18th Party Congress, raising the eyebrows of some political observers.

Liu Weiping, a former Vice-Governor of Qinghai province, was transferred to July 2001. In May 2003, Liu was appointed secretary-general for the Qinghai party Committee, reporting to Zhao Leji, who was then promoted to Deputy Communist Party Secretary in August 2004. He was again transferred to the same post in neighboring Gansu province in December 2006. Liu was named Acting Governor of Gansu in July 2010. On 18 January 2011, he was elected Governor at the Gansu Provincial Congress. Liu was elected Governor of Gansu again in January 2013.

Liu Weiping, a 1972 graduate of the Nanjing Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Nanjing studying aircraft design, enrolled there. In January 1974, he joined the Communist Party of China. He returned to Hongdu Machinery Building Factory, where he worked for its design institute, after graduating from college.

Liu was first transferred to Jiangxi’s provincial government in 1986. He worked under Wu Guanzheng (then Jiangxi governor) and rose through the ranks to become Nanchang’s mayor in 1995. He was a part-time student in the Central Party School of China’s Communist Party of China’s postgraduate program, and earned a master’s in Economics.

Liu was an alternate member of the 17th Central Committee, and a full member of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
