Green was a high school basketball player at Moss Point High School, Mississippi. He averaged 39.7 point per game as a senior and led the nation in scoring. He averaged 9.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. He was an All- American McDonald’s and Parade Magazine. He was ranked 37th on Sports Illustrated’s 1999 list of Mississippi’s 50 greatest sports figures.

Green was an international player in Venezuela, Turkey and Poland from 1999 to 2002.

Green was a college basketball player at the University of Georgia. He became UGA’s all time leading scorer (2111). He was also the school’s all time leader in assists. He was a key player in the Bulldogs’ 1990 Southeastern Conference Championship win and an All Southeastern Conference selection in 1990 1991 and 1992. Green, along with Pete Maravich, is the only UGA basketball player to have scored 2,000 points. He is also one of three Southeastern Conference players to have recorded over 2000 points and 400 assists.

Green was selected in the second round 1992 NBA Draft by Chicago Bulls. He played for the Orlando Magic from 1992 to 1994 as a backup to Scott Skiles, Anfernee Hardaway, and he was also chosen in the 1992 NBA Draft. After spending a full season playing for the Detroit Pistons (1996-1997), Green signed with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Cleveland Cavaliers (1997). He also played with the Quad City Thunder, a member of the Continental Basketball Association.

In 2003, Green was hired to coach the Southern Crescent Lightning of the World Basketball Association. He won the league’s Coach of the Year Award when his team won the league championship. He later served as the head coach of the Chattanooga Steamers of the American Basketball Association. Green has also worked for ESPN College Basketball as an analyst and has been a consultant to NBA teams.
