Liselotte Maria “Lotta” Neumann, a professional Swedish golfer, was born 20 May 1966. Neumann became the first female or male Swedish golfer to win a major championship when she won her first LPGA Tour title in 1988, when she claimed the U.S. Women’s Open title.

For most of 1986, she was the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit leader. She had eight consecutive top three finishes but was beaten by Laura Davies at last tournament, Spanish Open. Neumann was 27th in the tournament. This is her worst finish of the season. Davies won the tournament. Neumann was second in the rankings, only PS494 better than Davies. Neumann, the first Order of Merit winner of the Ladies’ Swedish Golf Tour, was also established in that year.

At the 1988 U.S. Women’s Open at Baltimore Country Club, Five Farms, Baltimore, Maryland, July 21-24, at 22 years of age, Neumann led wire-to-wire in just her 16th LPGA Tour tournament, setting a new tournament first-round record 67 and 72-hole record 277, becoming the first Swedish major winner, male or female, as well as the first Swedish tournament winner on the LPGA Tour or the PGA Tour. She became the fifth non-U.S.-winner and the second youngest (by two months to Catherine Lacoste in 1967) in the 43-year history of the championship. She was voted 1988 LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year and earned her second Swedish Golfer of the Year award. She was also appointed 1988 Swedish Sportswomen of the Year by Aftonbladet and the Swedish Sports Confederation.

Neumann became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1988, after tying fourth at the LPGA Tour Final Qualifying Tournament in late 1987.

In May 1985, she won her first professional victory at the Pierre Robert Cup. She played 54 holes at Falsterbo Golf Club in Sweden. She also participated in the Ladies European Tour, then known as the WPGA Tour, the second half, where she was a winner twice. She became the youngest winner of the WPGA Tour at the Hoganas Ladies Open at Molle Golf Club, Sweden.
