Paus served as vice-chairwoman of the German Irish Parliamentary Friendship Group (since2014) and the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relationships with Malta and Cyprus (since2018). Paus is also a member the German-Italian Parliamentary Friendship Group, and the German–Slovenian Parliamentary Group.
Since the 2009 federal elections, Paus has been a member of the German Bundestag. She is a member the Finance Committee, and is also the spokesperson for the Greens. She was also a member of the Committee on the Affairs of the European Union during her first term, 2009-2013.
