She won the Miss World beauty contest in 1998 shortly after she was raped. She has been a worldwide advocate for the prevention of sexual violence since then. Diana Hayden, her predecessor Miss World 1997 was the one who crowned her.

Abargil won Miss World and continued her modeling career in Israel and abroad. She enrolled at Beit Zvi School of the Performing Arts to study drama. She appeared in many plays and TV series. Abargil made a decision to change her direction and study law at the Netanya Academic College. After graduating, she worked as a Tel Aviv District Attorney.

In 2017, together with her friend, businesswoman Yafit Attias, Abargil launched a fashion label aimed to serve the modesty needs of religious women. They named the line LYA, an amalgam of the initials of both women.

Abargil began filming Brave Miss World in 2008, a documentary film that was based on her rape, and subsequent activism. Cecilia Peck directed the film, which followed Abergil’s journey around the globe lecturing to groups of women and encouraging them talk about their experiences dealing with sexual violence. The film documents Abergil’s attempts to cope with the trauma she suffered, her relationships with her family, her eventual acceptance of Orthodox Judaism (after she stopped modeling), her decision to study law, work for the District Attorney’s Office and the release of a song about forgiveness between mother-daughter after her daughter was raped. The film features students, mothers, older women, and celebrities like Joan Collins and Fran Drescher who share their stories of sexual assault. Abargil, who retraces her steps in Italy from before and after her rape, meets the examining physician and confronts the modeling agencies she believes are responsible for placing her and other young women at risk from known sexual predators. Abargil’s personal and marital life are also covered. She is also shown delivering her first two children.
