She released No Other Star, a pop-reggae record in Japan. In 1996, she also released other works as Hardknox, along with fellow DJ Steve Proctor. Their debut single, “Coz I Can”, was released by Skint Records. It was nominated for “Single Of The Week” honours from NME. The same award was given to the group’s second album, “Psychopath”. Jive Electro released a self-titled album in 1999 after several remixes for artists like Orgy, Crystal Method and Faith No More.
Layton guested on three tracks on the 2009 Groove Diggerz album, Money for Good Times: “Weirdness”, “Just Be Good to Me” (a reworking of her Beats International hit “Dub Be Good to Me”), and “Body Flow” for which she also shared a writing credit.
Driza Bone produced Layton’s 1991 summer single “Without You(One and One).” “Without You(One and One),” although it sold better than Layton’s previous single, it failed to make the Top 40. In 1992, Layton released a single single for Debut Records. “I’ll be a Freak for You”, however, was not a chart-hit. Layton returned to the charts in 2009 with a new deal from PWL. The new material was commercially more successful and two singles of minor chart success in the UK were released: “We Got the Love” (Show Me) and “We Got the Love”. PWL was not able to provide the expected profit return and Layton left PWL.

In the 1980s, Layton was a student at the Barbara Speake Stage School. Beats International, her group, released a few singles in early 1990s UK. One of these singles was “Dub Be Good To Me”. Beats International’s debut album Let Them Eat Bingo was a moderately successful release.
After the success of Beats International’s singles, Layton signed a solo contract with Arista in 1990 and released Janet Kay’s “Silly Games” version. This single was a hit and there were more releases from Pressure, her 1991 debut album. These were less popular with each subsequent release. Norman Cook and Driza Bone, a dance-soul-funk group, produced Pressure. The second single from the album, “Echo My Heart”, was just a narrow miss in the UK Top 40 in January 1991. “Wait For Love,” however, which Norman Cook produced, failed to make it to the UK Singles Chart in April 1991.
She guested with the Dub Pistols in May 2009, reprising “Dub Be Good to Me”, at their support slot to The Specials at the O2 Academy, Brixton. She guested again with the Dub Pistols at Rock the River 2009, a wakeboard and music festival held on the quay of World Heritage Site, Conwy. She also appeared with the Dub Pistols at the last Glade Festival in 2009. Layton has also recorded with the band, appearing alongside Rodney P on the single “I’m in Love” from their 2009 album Rum & Coke and “Rock Steady” from the 2013 LP Worshipping the Dollar. In 2013, she had a daytime radio show on Kane FM with Mel Foster entitled The Mrs, which ran for about year. She is now a songwriter and composes with her writing partner Matt Kootchi, who owns and runs house label Good Lucky Recordings.
