Sparkes, Robin Klassen and Lorraine Bowles won their first provincial and national championships in 1976. The team won the national championship again in 1979. They were then eligible for the 1979 Royal Bank of Scotland World Women’s Curling Championship. In the semi-final, they lost to Switzerland.
Sparkes won her third provincial title in 1984 with her new team of Linda Moore and Debbie Orr. She finished 3rd at the national championship, then known as the Tournament of Hearts. Sparkes and Moore changed positions the following season and the team won another province. They went on to win the 1985 Scott Tournament of Hearts title beating Newfoundland. The team won the 1985 World Championships gold medal by defeating Scotland in final. The 1986 Scott Tournament of Hearts was the first event in which the defending champion could be back as Team Canada. Unfortunately, the team lost the final to Ontario.
