Linda Reid is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on June 27, 1959 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Reid was born in Vancouver in British Columbia, in 1959. She received her education degree from the University of British Columbia. UBC awarded her a Master’s of Arts in Education, Language Acquisition, Language Learning, and Public Administration. Reid was a teacher, language therapist and school administrator in the Richmond School District before she was elected to the Legislative Assembly. Reid, who is a long-standing supporter of Girl Guides of Canada and a member of their Board of Directors as a child and adult, also led the charge to establish a charitable endowment for Camp Olave in British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast.
Reid supports many causes in her riding, and throughout the province. Reid supported the Nelson Road Interchange project, which was completed in 2011. The new interchange will reduce truck traffic and increase safety for farmers as well as their families. Reid advocated the creation of an Endowment Fund for Girl Guides of Canada in order to protect themselves against changes in Camp Olave’s property tax exemption status. Reid was instrumental in 2008 in the establishment of the Roots of Empathy program for BC. This program is designed to foster empathy and reduce bullying. Reid was chair of Canada Northwest Fetal Alcohol Partnership in 2004-2005. This partnership aims to create an interprovincial approach to FASD prevention.
On March 9, 2012, Reid was announced as the winner of the Ethel Tibbits Award in the category of community, in recognition of her two decades of work as a political and community leader. The awards, known as the Ethels, are run by the Richmond Review newspaper.
In January 2012, Reid traveled to New Mexico for the opening of their 50th legislative session. Reid’s trip to New Mexico stemmed from a friendship agreement between the legislative assemblies of British Columbia and New Mexico. This friendship agreement allows for exchanges of information and traditions between the two.
Reid was Minister of Early Childhood Development from 2001 to 2005 and Minister of Childcare from 2005 to 2009. Reid was the Minister of Early Childhood Development and oversaw the creation 6,000 new childcare spaces in British Columbia. Reid established a monthly individualized funding program for children with autism spectrum disorders in 2002. This model takes into consideration the unique needs of each child. In 2002 Reid also announced the creation the BC Early Childhood Development Legacy Fund. This fund supports community initiatives that support children aged 6 and under. Reid was Minister for Childcare and oversaw the Boost BC program, which provided free booster seats to low income families in 2007 to meet new requirements that children aged 20-40 lbs must use a booster seat in a vehicle.
