Linda Koop is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on June 21, 1950 in Dallas, Texas, United States. Koop is a vocal defender of free enterprise. In 1929, her grandfather founded National Shoes in Dallas. It is the oldest family-owned business of its kind in the city. It was home to four generations of her family before it closed in the 1990s. Formerly, she was employed by the North Central Texas Council of Governments and Dallas Area Rapid Transit.

Carter was initially viewed as more conservative than Koop. She tried to cast her as a Moderate Republican. Koop was a city councilmember until she was term-limited 2013 and had voted for numerous bond issues to be placed on the ballot. Carter claimed Koop supported $500 million in higher taxes on the council. Koop tried to portray herself as more conservative than Carter, but with great success. Koop stressed her support for border security as well as opposition to illegal immigration.

In the March 4, 2014 Republican primary for House District 102, Koop led the incumbent Stefani Carter, an African American, by 163 votes. She received 3,646 votes (34.7 percent) to Carter’s 3,483 (33.2 percent). Two other candidates held another critical 32 percent of the ballots cast.

In 2015, Linda Koop voted for Joe Straus as speaker of the house. She voted in favor of HB 80, which placed a ban on texting and driving. Koop regularly has voted in favor of bills relating to occupational licensing such as HB 2267 (which would require an anesthesiologist assistant to obtain a license before practicing) and HB 1260 (which would require an occupational license for shrimp loading and off loading). Additionally, Koop voted in favor of HB 486 which would allow school districts to raise taxes without voter approval. Koop also voted in favor of the Garen Amendment of SB 19, which sought to grant special privileges to legislators and legislative staff members by categorizing their communications as confidential, reducing government transparency.

Koop also spoke out about border security. She highlighted her main campaign issues, including minimizing Texas’ impact on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2010, protecting the water supply and strengthening local schools. Koop pledged as a legislator that she would “fight any program or tax that harms small businesses in order to grow our economy, and create jobs.”
