Linda Staines, nee Keough was born 28 December 1963. She is an ex-british track and field athlete. She competed mostly in the 400m. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, she represented Great Britain in the 400m and 4x400m relay. She also won a bronze medal at the World Championships 1993 in the 4x400m relay. Four medals were also awarded to her at the Commonwealth Games. These included an individual silver medal in 400m in 1990, and two relay gold medals in 1993.

Keough was the UK’s number one female 400-meter runner in 1988. She won the UK National Championships title with 52.25 seconds. In June, her personal record was 51.65. This title earned her Olympic selection. She reached the quarter- finals in the 400m, running 51.91, and was able to reach the final of the 4×400 m relay where she placed sixth, along with Jennifer Stoute and Angela Piggford.

Later in 1990, she ran 51.22 to finish fifth in the 400 metres final at the European Championships in Split. Then along with Stoute, Pat Beckford and Gunnell, she won a bronze medal in the 4 × 400 m relay, running a fine anchor leg in 50.1.

Representing England at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland in January, Keough won two medals. In the 400 metres she won a silver medal in 51.63, behind Nigeria’a Fatima Yusuf and ahead of another Nigerian Charity Opara. In the 4×400 metres relay, she won a gold medal, along with Jennifer Stoute, Angela Piggford and Sally Gunnell.

Gary Staines, an athlete who competed at the 1988 Olympic Games in Beijing, was her husband. He reached the final of 5km.
