Liina Tennosaar started a two-year engagement in Tartu at Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu after graduating. It ended in 1988. She was an actress at Parnu’s Endla Theatre from 1998 to 1993. From 1996 to 2001, she was an actress at Tallinn’s Vanalinnastuudio. She has been an actor freelancer since 2001. She has performed in numerous productions at other theatres throughout Estonia including the Tallinna Kammerteater and the Ugala Theatre.

In 1993, she received the Ants Lauter Award for her portrayal of the character Josie Hogan in a Priit Pedajas staged production of Eugene O’Neill’s A Moon for the Misbegotten (Estonian translated title: Saatuse heidikute kuu) at the Endla Theatre.

From 1997 until 1999, she played the character of Tiiu on the popular, long- running ETV television drama Õnne 13. She has made appearances on such Estonian television series as Urpo & Turpo, Ohtlik lend, Ühikarotid, Kelgukoerad, Kättemaksukontor, Elu keset linna and Viimane võmm. In 2017, she appeared as Inga in the TV3 mystery-drama series Merivälja.

Liina Tennosaar was married twice. Her first marriage was to Heino Seljamaa, an actor, puppeteer, and singer. They were divorced in 1993. Jass Seljamaa was born to the couple in 1985 and has since become an actor. Epp was her second marriage to Sten Zupping, an actor. Tennosaar divorced Zupping in 2008. Since 2008, she has been in a long-term relationship with Egon Nuter, a theater and film actor and director of theater.

Tennosaar made her feature film debut in 1990 in a starring role as Juuli in the Arvo Kruusement directed Sügis for Tallinnfilm. The film was based on the Oskar Luts novel of the same name and the final part of a trilogy of both the novels and films made based on them. This was followed by a small role in the 1993 Pekka Karjalainen directed comedy Hysteria; a joint Finnish-Estonian production.
