Liina-Riin Olmaru, a daughter of actors Rein Olmaru (nee Kuusmaa), was born in Tallinn in 1967 to Liina Olmaru. She is the mother of three children. She graduated from Rakvere 1st secondary school (now Rakvere Gymnasium) in 1985. She graduated from Tartu’s Vanemuine theatre-teaching studio in 1989.
Liina Omaru made her first television appearances in 1995, playing the role of Virve on the Eesti Televisioon drama television series Wikmani poised. This series was based on Jaan Kross’ 1988 novel. She played the role of Piret in the Swedish crime drama television series Tusenbroder in 2007. The previous year, she had also played the same role in Erik Leijonborg’s feature film adaptation of the series entitled Tusenbroder-Aterkomsten. She also appeared on Ohtlik lend, an ETV crime drama series, as Anne Kulik.
Liina Olmaru married actor Indrek Sammul in 1998. The couple have three adopted children; two sons and a daughter. They currently reside in Tallinn.
Liina Olmaru has also appeared in a number of memorable radio theatre plays, including the role of Enenken Üüve in Ekke Moor in 2002, as Virve Adamson in Madis Kõiv’s Üks teine lugu in 2003, and as Linda Vilde in Heidi Sarapuu’s Tervist, härra Vilde! in 2015.
After graduating from the Vanemuine’s teacher studio, Olmaru entered the theatre in 1989 as an actress. She would stay at the Vanemuine through 1998. She also took part in Tartu Children’s Theatre from 1989 to 1992. After her departure from Vanemuine in 1998, she joined Tallinn City Theatre, where she would stay engaged as an actor until 2007, when she joined Viljandi’s Ugala theatre. Olmaru spent three years at the Ugala before she left in 2010 to go back to the Vanemuine, where her career started. She remained with the Vanemuine from 2010 to 2012, before she became a freelance actress.
