Liew Vui Keong is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 18, 1960 in Kota Belud, Sabah, Malaysia. Datuk Liew Vui Keong (simplified Chinese: Liu Wei Qiang ; traditional Chinese: Liu Wei Qiang ; pinyin: Liu Weiqiang ; born 18 January 1960) is a Malaysian politician. From 2008 to his defeat in 2013, he was the Member of Parliament of Malaysia for Sandakan, Sabah. He was also a federal deputy minister during his term in Parliament. From 2006 to 2014, he was President of the Liberal Democratic Party. He was then replaced by Teochee Kang in an internal dispute. Liew contested Teo’s claim to the presidency of the party with the Registrar of Societies. In 2018, Liew influenced around 200 LDP members who left the party. Since leaving the LDP, Liew has been named as the permanent chairman of Sabah Heritage Party(WARISAN). He is currently a former Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department for Legal Affairs.
After the establishment of a new Malaysian government, and his subsequent appointment to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department on Law Matters in 2018, he declared that the new Malaysian government planned to abolish mandatory capital punishment for all situations including serious crimes. This was strongly opposed by many social and political groups in the country who are against the total abolition.
Liew was fielded by his new party, WARISAN, to contest the Batu Sapi parliamentary constituency in the 2018 election. He defeated Linda Tsen Thau Lin from United Sabah Party, (PBS) to win the seat.
