Vidal was elected by the PRI as the candidate for district 1 and he was sent back to San Lazaro to be a part of the LXIII Legislature. He is a secretary on the Southern/Southeastern Border Matters Commission and also serves on those dealing with Culture and Film, as well as Tourism.

Vidal was briefly the state secretary for social development in 2007. Between 2008 and 2009, Vidal was also the secretary of community policy. Vidal was elected to the federal legislature by voters in 2009 as a deputy of the LXI Legislature. Vidal was a member of the PVEM faction, and the secretary of Social Development Commission. Vidal was also a member of the PVEM faction and served as secretary to the Social Development Commission.

Vidal entered politics in 1990, when he was elected president of the PRI of his hometown of Valladolid. He was elected mayor the following year. This position he held until 1993. He also became the first of a series of business leaders in a family company called Proveedora del Hogar Vidal S.A. de C.V.

Vidal was a local deputy in both the LIII Legislature and LV Legislatures of Congress of Yucatan from 1994 to 1995, and again in 1998 and 2001. Between 1994 and 1995, Vidal was the state subsecretary to government. He also served as a state politician councilor. Between 1996 and 1999, he was also the founder and director of Bodega Mayorista del Sureste S.A. de C.V., (Bomssa). Bomsa had a base in Merida and branches in Cancun, Comitan, and Coatzacoalcos. He was appointed director of Proveedora mueblera Vidal S.A. de C.V. in 1999. This position he held for eighteen years. Vidal was vice-president of Valladolid’s chamber of commerce from 2001 to 2003. Vidal, along with several former members of the PRI in Yucatan, also jumped from the PRI during this period to join the Party of the Democratic Revolution.

For most of the last 25 years, beginning with his tenure as municipal president of Valladolid, Vidal has donated his statutory salary from his various government positions for charitable purposes, a tradition he continued in 2016 by donating $86,000 per month, stating that he earns enough from his business ventures. For the first time, in 2016, citizens got to choose to which priority areas Vidal’s donation would be directed, selecting medicine for low-income children, environmental education, and homes for the elderly.
