George moved to Stevenage Borough after unsuccessful trials at Leyton Orient and Sheffield United. After three months at the Conference club, George and Wayne Turner, his ex-Luton assistant manager were ready to move onto Bury for a three-month contract. George was a former player for St. Patrick’s Athletic and Boston United before the 2002-03 season ended. York City signed George following a successful trial in advance of the 2003-04 season. However, George sustained another injury that required him to spend more time at the hospital. York were therefore relegated. Chris Brass, York’s manager, did not offer George a new contract. Therefore, another move to Grays Athletic was in the cards. George played for Dunstable Town in the AFC Wimbledon before signing with the Atlanta Silverbacks, USL First Division side.
He studied at the University of Salford for a degree in Physiotherapy which he completed in the summer of 2011.
George entered management by joining St Neots Town as an assistant manager in September 2014.
George was able to break into the Irish youth team with Richard Dunne, Robbie Keane and Stephen McPhail. He then progressed through the Irish youth and reserve teams. He represented Ireland at the UEFA Under 18 Youth Championships in July 1998, where he reached the final against Germany. George won the game with a score of 3-3.

George made his debut in 1997-98 with a 3-0 loss to Bristol City. However, his playing time was very limited. George was a more promising player in the next season, and he became a regular on the first team. However, a broken leg kept him out of action for much of the summer. George scored 16 goals in the 1999-2000 season. Luton were relegated in 2000 with George managing seven league goals and two cup goals. Luton reached the Third Division (now Football League Two), for the first time since over 30 years. George was contracted on a weekly basis. Joe Kinnear, Luton’s manager, purchased several players and George was unable to maintain a starting spot.
After Scott Green, defender at Wigan Athletic, challenged George to a match in August 1998, George sustained a fracture-dislocation to his left ankle. In November 2001, George lost his medical and was forced to move to Colchester United. He was never told the reason for the failure. George’s 2003-2004 season was cut short by shin splints to his right calf. In 2004-2005, George was again hurt by patella tendinitis. He had to sit out for 18 months.
A far cry from the international success at under-18 level, George found himself thousands of miles from home playing in the United Soccer League, the second division of US soccer, the top tier being Major League Soccer. George scored three goals in 22 games for the Silverbacks before returning to England with Chesham United in November 2006, signing non-contract terms to be able to play competitive football. January 2007 saw him move to Eastleigh again on non-contract terms. This was followed by spells with Hyde United and FC United of Manchester, whom he left in October 2007. George went on to sign for Barton Rovers before he signed for Darran Hay’s Hitchin Town in December 2008. After a short spell with Arlesey Town, George rejoined Barton Rovers in 2010.
