Lia Emele Finocchiaro, born 20 September 1984, is an Australian politician. Since her election in 2016, she has been a Country Liberal Party Member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, Spillett. After Gary Higgins’ resignation on February 1, 2020, she was elected Leader of the Opposition in Northern Territory. From 2012 to 2016, she was Drysdale’s member.

Following a redistribution of electoral boundaries, Finocchiaro sought CLP preselection for the new seat of Spillett, taking in strong conservative suburbs between Darwin and Palmerston–including her base in Durack. For CLP preselection, she defeated Treasurer Dave Tollner. Finocchiaro entered the 2016 election with a notional majority of 17.9%. This made Spillett the CLP seat that was the most secure in Darwin/Palmerston.

Finocchiaro, who was then Minister for Sport and Recreation and Racing, Statehood and Young Territorians, was promoted to the Second Mills Ministry on 7 March 2013. She was 28 years old and was the youngest minister in Territory History. She was fired from the ministry after Adam Giles challenged Terry Mills, then-Chief Minister of Territory, on 14 March.

Finocchiaro was raised in Palmerston and was born in Northern Territory. After attending local primary schools, she went on to Kormilda College for her secondary education. She was the Northern Territory’s highest-ranking Army Cadet while in high school. After completing the International Baccalaureate diploma, she graduated from the University of Adelaide with a double degree. In 2008, she returned to Darwin and was licensed as a Northern Territory legal practitioner. On 1 February 2020, Higgins resigned as CLP leader and opposition leader, with Finocchiaro replacing him. Former Chief Minister and Territory Alliance Leader Terry Mills claimed to have replaced her as Opposition Leader on 18 March 2020, however this claim was not formalised by the Legislative Assembly.
