Reed was elected president of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen on April 3,

2007. He is the first Black person in St. Louis history elected to this position. Reed was re-elected on April 5, 2011 with over 80% of the vote. As Board President, Reed sits on the Board of Estimate and Apportionment, which approves all City real estate purchases, appropriations and the City’s annual operating budget, the Airport Commission, which is responsible for the oversight of all planning, development, management and operation of Lambert International Airport and the East-West Gateway Council of Governments, the Metropolitan planning organizationof the St. Louis region.
