2005 was Levern Spencer’s breakthrough year. Just 21 years old, Saint-Lucian wins her first major title at the Central American and Caribbean Championships. She sets a new personal record and national record of 1.94m. This win earns her a place in the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. She is disappointed to have lost the competition’s qualifying round with a time of 1.84 m.
During the 2007 season, Levern Spencer wins the NACAC Championships and takes bronze at the Pan American Games, behind Mexico’s Romary Rifka and Canada’s Nicole Forrester. Competing at her second senior 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Spencer creates history when making the final, equalling in the qualification round her own national record of 1.94 m. She then finished 15th with 1.90 m.
The following year, 2008, she Dominic Johnson and Erma Gene Evans are the three athletes representing Saint Lucia at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She did not make the final, only managing 1.85 m for 27th. Earlier in the season, she won the 2008 Central American and Caribbean Championships with a jump of 1.91 m.
She sets a new national record in 2003 and also breaks her personal best by clearing twice 1.86m during the season. She finishes 5th at the Pan American Games final as a junior athlete. She jumps 1.88m in 2004.

Spencer was born in Castries. She attended the University of Georgia, where she received her bachelor’s in Health Promotion and Behavior. After completing a course in computer science, Spencer continued her studies at the University of Georgia. She won gold at the 2001 CARIFTA Games. She also wins the bronze medal at the World Youth Championships Debrecen in Hungary. Her jump of 1.81m was a new national record.
She lost her CARIFTA Games title in 2002. Instead, she won the silver medal behind Shaunette Davindson from Jamaica. She finished 8th at the World Junior Championships in 2002 with 1.83m. On May 14, at the IAAF Diamond League tour in Shanghai, she earned a victory with a jump of 1.94 m, on countback ahead of Uzbekistan’s Nadiya Dusanova. In late June, she won the national title with 1.94 m. Spencer arrives in Rio de Janeiro with the goal to make her first Olympic final at the age of 32. On August 18, she competed in the qualifying round of the women’s high jump at the Olympics and became the first Saint-Lucian athlete to qualify for the final. Two days later, she finished in 6th place. The title was won by Spain’s Ruth Beitia. Back in Saint Lucia, the local population came to celebrate her performance. Two weeks after the Olympics, she jumped 1.96 m at the Meeting de Paris to place second behind Ruth Beitia. At the end of the season, she finishes second in the IAAF Diamond League tournament, behind Beitia again.
