Leonid Afremov is one of the most popular and richest Painter who was born on July 12, 1955 in Vitebsk, Vitebsk Region, Belarus. He settled down in the Tel Aviv area and opened an art gallery in Ashdod. In 2002, he moved to the United States and in 2004 he started selling his paintings on eBay. After eight years in the United States, in March 2010 he moved to Playa del Carmen, Mexico where he lived for nine years.

On 19 August 2019 Leonid Afremov suffered a cardiac arrest at his home and died hours later in the general hospital. He was buried in a traditional Jewish ceremony in the municipal cemetery of Playa del Carmen.

His birthplace was Vitebsk, Belarus (USSR territory at the time) to Jewish parents Bella Afremov and Arkadiy Afremov. His father was shoemaker and designer while his mother was employed in a factory for metal. He got married Inessa Kagan.
