For the season 2017-18, Walker had his best performance in a ranking event to date, making it to the semi-finals of the 2017 Gibraltar Open where he was defeated by eventual runner-up Cao Yupeng.
The 2016-17 season was when he experienced one of his best seasons to date, with the most notable of which was his performance in his own tournament which was The Welsh Open. He beat Rhys Clark, and former world champions Neil Robertson and Graeme Dott before losing in the fourth round to Zhou Yuelong.

After making the switch to professional tennis in 1994 aged 18 Walker reached the quarter-finals at the World Championship in 1997, winning against Dave Harold 10-7 and Alan McManus 13-10 before losing 13-8 against Alain Robidoux. It is the first time that he had made it to the last stages of a ranking event as well as he made it to the final 16 of the identical tournament back in 2004,. He won an 11-7 victory over Stephen Lee before losing 13-5 to David Gray. He was dropped off his participation on the Main Tour after the 2005-2006 season however he returned the following year after a successful campaign in the Pontin’s International Open Series, from where the top eight finishers are awarded Main Tour places. But he was dropped again towards the end to the campaign.
Walker was able to return to the tour in 2014 , as Walker was awarded a two- year tour card after he reached the semi-final stage of the second race in the 2013 Q School.
