He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2001’s New Year Honours for services to disabled sports, and Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005’s New Year Honours for services to equestrianism and disabled sports and also the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2009 New Year Honours for services to equestrianism and disabled sports. He was knighted during the 2016 New Year Honours for services to equestrianism.

Pearson was born the condition of arthrogryposis congenita and was first brought to the notice of the world in the year 1980, when British Premier Margaret Thatcher carried him up the stairs of Ten Downing Street having awarded him an ‘Children Of Courage’ award.
Pearson made the transition to professional after being motivated to become a professional by Atlanta Olympics. He was awarded three gold medals at the freestyle, championship dressage and team dressage events during the 2004, 2000 as well as the 2008 Summer Paralympics. He was awarded medals in team dressage competition during the 2012 Summer Paralympics Silver for the dressage championship, and bronze at the freestyle.
He noted after his failure to win gold in the freestyle competition in London that he had been voted down by the British judge but said that he would compete at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, on a different horse.
