Rosenthal chaired the Judicial Conference Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure, to which she was appointed in 2007 by Chief Justice John Roberts The committee supervises the rule-making process in the federal courts and oversees and coordinates the work of the Advisory Committees on the Federal Rules of Evidence and of Civil, Criminal, Bankruptcy and Appellate Procedure.
Rosenthal was named the judge who would be the best trial judge in the year in The Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists in 2000, and then again in 2006. She was awarded Texas Bar Association’s top bar-poll assessment judge three timesin 2005, 1999 and 2007. The 2007 poll showed that 80.5 percent of respondents rated her “outstanding” and 16.5% said she was “acceptable.”

Rosenthal earned the degree as a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago in 1974 and then her Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School in 1977. There she served as an editor for the Law Review.
