Lee Irwin Fisher (born August 7 1981) was an American lawyer, law professor and professor, former executive of a non-profit organization and the former Ohio statewide public office holder. As a member of Ohio’s Democratic Party, he served as the 64th Lieutenant Governor of Ohio together alongside the Governor Ted Strickland, from 2007 to 2011. He is the Dean of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. He also holds in charge of the Joseph Hostetler -BakerHostetler Chair in Law.

Prior to his appointment as lieutenant governor Fisher was an elected member of the Ohio General Assembly, first in the Ohio House of Representatives (1981-1982) before he was elected to the Ohio Senate (1982-1990). Fisher was the Attorney General for Ohio from 1991 until 1995, and was the Democratic nomination as Governor of Ohio in 1998. He lost against Republican Bob Taft.

In 1998, Fisher ran for governor but lost to Republican Bob Taft, 50%–45%, in the closest gubernatorial election in 28 years.

Joining the ticket of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland, Fisher was elected lieutenant governor in 2006. The Ohio gubernatorial campaign was captured in the documentary film Swing State, which was directed by (his son) Jason Zone-Fisher, John Intrater, and H. Spencer Young.

In the age group of 29 Fisher became a member of at the age of 29 to the Ohio House of Representatives in the year 1980. He was an Ohio State Representative for two years prior to becoming a member of the Ohio Senate in 1982. He was recognized as the ” Outstanding Freshman Legislator” by Columbus Monthly magazine in 1982. He was an Ohio state senator for 8 years. In 1983, he was appointed as a Chase Public Leadership Fellow and went to his Harvard Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government.

Fisher was a graduate of Oberlin College in 1973 (later serving on the trustees’ board over 12 months) in 1973, and from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in the year 1976 (later receiving the school’s first Distinguished Recent Graduate Award in 1984, and was inducted into the law school’s Society of Benchers in 2009). He completed the Weatherhead School of Business at Case Western Reserve University’s professional Fellows Program in the year 1996. He graduated in 2004 and was awarded the master’s in Nonprofit Organizations at the Mandel Center of Case Western Reserve University for Non- Profit Organizations.

He was partner until he became appointed to be the chief executive officer for the Center for Families and Children in 1999.

Fisher was elected Attorney General of Ohio in 1990, defeating Paul Pfeifer in the only statewide election in Ohio history to trigger a statewide recount. In 1992, Fisher was elected a presidential elector for Ohio. Fisher served as attorney general from 1991 to 1995, narrowly losing his bid for re-election in 1994 to Republican Betty Montgomery.
